Q: How do I take good non professional pictures?

A:

  • Shoot in natural light/outdoors, this will help avoid redeye and flash glare
  • Try to use simple backgrounds
  • Wear simple or no makeup
  • Wear minimal or no jewellery
  • Include: A recent picture, full face, profile and 3/4 or full length
  • If using a digital camera ensure the resolution is at least 2 Megapixel
  • Avoid using a webcam, most do not produce high enough quality pictures
  • Ensure the camera is not too close to your face, many cameras will not focus at distances less than one meter
  • Get someone else to take your pictures, do not try to do them yourself.
  • Your pictures should not include other people.
  • In general the sun should be roughly behind the person with the camera, not the subject.
  • If the sun is behind the subject, consider using flash.
